So long fee-for-service, welcome to value-based reimbursement! As of January 1st 2017, the Quality Payment Program is in effect. No longer will healthcare providers be able to rely on the days of old, but organizations must adapt to new methods of reimbursement or face declining revenues.
MACRA, or the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, is a historic piece of legislation that completely changes the method of Medicare reimbursement. The Quality Payment Program, commonly referred to as the QPP, allows clinicians two different pathways to achieve Medicare reimbursement. The first, and most common, is the Merit-Based Incentive Payment Systems, or MIPS, while the second and more challenging method is participation in an Alternative Payment Model, or APM.
Your healthcare organization doesn’t take Medicare? You still need to be up to speed on the Quality Payment Program, as when CMS institutes a program, commercial payers and insurers typically follow suit with similar programs. This change in reimbursement method will not stay isolated within Medicare payments, but will greatly impact the entire healthcare reimbursement system as we progress through healthcare reform.
Attendees to the complimentary ScanSTAT webinar with Kathryn Ayers Wickenhauser, will learn:
- How the transition to value-based payment impacts all healthcare providers
- Pathways to reimbursement within the Quality Payment Program, including Alternative Payment Models (APM) and Merit-Based Incentive Payment Systems (MIPS)
- The accessibility of organization’s performance scores to patients
- Methodologies to increase reimbursement by percentage points
